Website principles pertaining to users, data, and privacy

Your privacy is very important to me (Jason Alan Loftis). I follow a few fundamental principles for the jLOFT.com website as it pertains to users, data, and privacy.

  • The website does not ask you for personal information unless it is truly needed.
  • I will not share your personal information with anyone except to comply with the law, improve my products and services, or protect my rights.
  • The website does not store personal information on its servers unless required for the on-going operation of the website.

General website visitor information

This is a typical website. As such, it collects non-personally-identifying information of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of each visitor request. The purpose in collecting non-personally identifying information is to better understand how visitors use this website. From time to time, jLOFT may release non-personally-identifying information in the aggregate (e.g. by publishing a report on trends in the usage of its website).

Data collected during user interactions with the website

This website’s content management system collects potentially personally-identifying information for logged in users, users leaving comments on the blog, and users submitting a message through the contact form. In addition to user-submitted data such as name and email address, the website database will log users’ Internet Protocol (IP) addresses when they submit data to the site during use of the login, comment form, or contact form.

Contact form

The contact form requires users to submit their name, email address, and their message to jLOFT. By filling in the contact form with their data, users authorize this website to use these details to reply to requests for information or any other kind of request as indicated by the form’s message.

Analytics

Google Analytics is a web analysis service provided by Google Inc. (“Google”). Google utilizes the Data collected to track and examine the use of this website, to prepare reports on its activities and share them with other Google services. Google may use the Data collected to contextualize and personalize the ads of its own advertising network.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. These external websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Cookies

A cookie is a string of information that a website stores on a visitor’s computer, and that the visitor’s browser provides to the website each time the visitor returns. jLOFT uses cookies in standard and limited ways to track visitor interactions with the website as described above.

Any visitors to this website who do not wish to have cookies placed on their computers should set their browsers to refuse cookies before using this website, with the drawback that certain features may not function properly without the aid of cookies.

Where we send user data

Most data is retained solely in the website’s content management system database on its web host’s servers.

Website registrations, comments, and contact form submissions generate email notifications that are sent to the website administrator for follow-up. And all website form submissions may be processed by an automated spam detection service.

General website traffic data is shared with analytics services as described above.

User interactions with embedded content from other websites may enable those external websites to collect some data on this website’s visitors as it pertains to their embedded content.

How long we retain user data

For users that register with the website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

User-submitted comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so the website administrator may recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

User-submitted contact form messages and their metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so the website administrator may keep a record of correspondence.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this website, have left comments, or have submitted contact form messages, you may request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Privacy policy changes

Although most changes are likely to be minor, jLOFT may change its Privacy Policy from time to time. Visitors are encouraged to check this page for updates. Continued use of this site after any changes in this Privacy Policy will constitute your acceptance of such changes.

How to contact jLOFT
