Since this is a follow up entry to my first attempt to create an Endeavr Logo, let me recap….
I am a student at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena. I am getting my Master of Arts in Theology. One of the reasons I chose Fuller was because of its unique program that attempts to blend one’s art with his/her study of theology. Thus, through Fuller’s Brehm Center, I am getting an MAT Degree in the Theology/Arts Format. I am in my final year of study, and that affords me the opportunity to spend three quarters working on my Master’s Thesis Project. Instead of writing a traditional piece of scholarly work, we are encouraged to integrate our knowledge of theology and ministry into our art. It is more an exercise in practical theology. In my case, art means graphic and web design.
It is my goal to design a Web 2.0 site geared towards serving the Christian community. I won’t write much more than that here because I don’t want to give away my brilliant ambitions just yet. The site will reside under the ENDEAVR.COM domain. I am in the process of trying to design its logo. Instead of using a typeface that already exists, I chose to draw each letter in the domain’s logo.
Okay, all of that is still the case. But in my previous entry, I wrote: “I may create a small icon to sit to the left of the word. Everything I think of seems too cliche.” In this draft, I tried to take the cliche concept of a globe and give it a new spin both literally and figuratively. I wanted the graphic to convey motion. It’s almost like a football or a rocket. Of course, those things come to mind because of the globe’s shape as much as the vapor trail and the arching ripples. Well, the shape comes from some research I did on globe/map projections. There are numerous mathematical approaches to representing the relative shape of the earth. One of the more popular projections is called “sinusoidal,” and it is that type of globe that made its way into my graphic design.
How about a critique of the logo so far? Please leave comments.

Hey Jason. A few things come to mind with your type - what if you made the 2nd “e” normal to emphasize the first? Then I’d either choose between the larger first letter or the colored last. Just my two sense!
Also, I’m noticing you’ve colored the “r” in both logo versions now. Is there a reason?

I like it.
I think you may have trouble putting that logo on various background colors (i.e. making it nicely transparent) with the way the smoke fades away…
Also, you’ll need to make sure you can put it somewhere other than all the way to the right side of something (i.e. make an end to that smoke trail on the right).

Thanks for the feedback. It helps.
Kristin… I like changing the second e to “normal.” I’ll play with reducing the size of the first letter. I color the last letter differently because my rendering of the word drops the last vowel and only has the “r,” so I want to draw attention to that the way Flickr does in their logo. Thanks for helping me improve this.
Eric… I can make it a PNG file that holds its transparency well. I’ve found that the logo looks good even when the vapor trail isn’t noticeable, though. You’re right about needing to create a way for the vapor to trail off naturally. Thanks for the insights.

Hi Jason,
This is your co-missionary before! Was just surfing the net when i stumbled upon your blog site. I recall that you also managed our website before and i kinda like the color combination you used back then. Well, we’re back in CDO assisting CBC. Missed you a lot brother,
Reuel
